Introducing the KinG Certified Performance Jam J Edition Camshaft
The Jam J Edition is the first official custom camshaft from KinG Certified Performance, and it was not created as a generic shelf grind.
This camshaft was designed specifically for John McClinton Jr.’s full-interior 1987 Monte Carlo SS, powered by an LME-built 427 cubic-inch LS engine and a positive-displacement supercharger. The goal was clear from the beginning: build a camshaft capable of supporting reliable power in a race-capable engine while still maintaining the drivability expected from a real street car.
The Jam J Edition represents the foundation of the KinG Certified Performance camshaft program and sets the standard for future KCP camshaft designs.
Built for a Real Car, Not Just a Catalog
The Jam J Edition was developed around a real-world combination: a full-interior G-body Monte Carlo SS with a positive-displacement blower, modern EFI control, upgraded fuel system, serious cylinder heads, and a valvetrain designed to support elevated RPM and cylinder pressure.
This was not a camshaft designed only to sound aggressive at idle.
It was created to help a heavy street/strip car make dependable power, maintain strong throttle response, and remain manageable enough to enjoy outside of the racetrack.

Designed Around an LME 427 and 3200 FTI Stall Converter
The Jam J Edition was designed for a serious displacement LS combination, not a small-cube street cruiser.
In John McClinton Jr.’s Monte Carlo SS, this camshaft is being installed in an LME-built 427 cubic-inch LS engine paired with a positive-displacement supercharger and a 3200 FTI stall converter.
That combination matters.
The 427 cubic-inch displacement helps the engine maintain strong low-speed and midrange torque, while the 3200 stall converter allows the engine to move into the camshaft’s effective power range quickly. This helps the car leave harder, recover better between gear changes, and take advantage of the airflow the camshaft was designed to support.
The predicted operating range for the Jam J Edition in this combination is approximately:
3,000–7,500 RPM
With the right cylinder heads, valvetrain, blower efficiency, fuel system, and calibration, the camshaft is intended to pull hard through the upper RPM range while still maintaining enough street manners for a full-interior vehicle.
Because this is a positive-displacement supercharged engine, the camshaft was not designed to simply chase peak RPM or maximum idle chop. It was designed to balance airflow, boost response, cylinder pressure, drivability, and durability.

Serious Valve Lift Requires Serious Supporting Parts
One of the defining features of the Jam J Edition is its valve lift.
With approximately .650" intake lift and .640" exhaust lift using a 1.7 rocker ratio, this is not an entry-level camshaft. That level of valve lift requires the right supporting components and should not be installed into a basic stock-style valvetrain.
The Jam J Edition is intended for engines equipped with capable cylinder heads and upgraded valvetrain components, including:
Cylinder heads capable of safely supporting the required valve lift
Upgraded PAC .700" valve springs
Upgraded roller rocker arms
Hardened performance pushrods
Upgraded hydraulic roller lifters
Proper pushrod length verification
Correct lifter preload
Adequate piston-to-valve clearance
Professional installation and tuning
This camshaft was designed for serious LS combinations where the cylinder heads, springs, rockers, pushrods, and lifters are selected to work together as a system.
Designed for Positive-Displacement Supercharged Power!
Positive-displacement superchargers demand a different approach than naturally aspirated or turbocharged combinations.
A PDS blower builds boost quickly and delivers strong low-end and midrange torque. The camshaft must support airflow without giving away unnecessary cylinder pressure, drivability, or blower efficiency.
The Jam J Edition was designed with that balance in mind.
Its profile is intended to support strong airflow and upper-RPM power while maintaining the controlled valve timing needed for a street-driven positive-displacement supercharged engine. The goal was not simply to make the biggest camshaft possible. The goal was to create a camshaft that could help the engine make power efficiently while still behaving properly in a full-interior street car.
Premium Steel Core Construction
The Jam J Edition was specified using the highest-grade steel camshaft core available through the selected U.S. camshaft manufacturing source.
That detail matters.
As cylinder pressure, spring pressure, RPM, and valve lift increase, the camshaft core becomes more important. A premium core helps support durability, wear resistance, and long-term reliability in a demanding performance environment.
The Jam J Edition was not designed as a budget camshaft. It was designed as a premium KinG Certified Performance component for customers who understand that serious power requires serious parts.
Built for Reliable Power and Drivability
The goal of the Jam J Edition was not to create a camshaft that only looks impressive on paper.
The goal was to create a camshaft that works.
For this Monte Carlo SS, the camshaft had to support a race-capable engine while still allowing the car to maintain the manners expected from a real street vehicle. That means balancing airflow, boost response, idle quality, vacuum characteristics, throttle response, and tuning stability.
As an EFI calibrator, John McClinton Jr. understands that a camshaft must be judged by the complete result, not by sound alone.
A properly designed camshaft should help the engine perform better everywhere it matters — not just at wide-open throttle, and not just in a parking lot.
Dyno Results Coming Soon
At this time, final dyno numbers have not yet been released.
The Jam J Edition will be tested and validated as the KinG Certified Performance Monte Carlo SS is completed. Dyno results and real-world performance data will be shared once the vehicle is finished and the combination has been properly evaluated.
Until then, the focus remains on the engineering purpose behind the camshaft: a premium positive-displacement blower cam designed for reliable power, strong drivability, and race-capable performance.
The First Chapter of the KCP Camshaft Program
The Jam J Edition is more than one camshaft.
It is the first official step in the KinG Certified Performance camshaft lineup.
This camshaft represents the standard KCP intends to bring to future hydraulic roller and solid roller camshaft designs: application-specific engineering, quality materials, serious valvetrain requirements, and performance built around real combinations.
